Swedish design house ACNE opened their flagship store in Downtown LA this past December to much fanfare. ACNE‘s choice of locating their newest addition inside the historic Art Deco Eastern Columbia Building, originally raised some eyebrows. The neighborhood was on the rise, but not quite the thriving shopping district that dominates LA’s chic West Side. In an interview with Trendland ACNE‘s Creative Director Jonny Johansson said, “We could have opened on Melrose. But for us, we had to start something new. This area is more our style. It’s very eclectic and has the most beautiful buildings in the world.”
Clad in perforated steel and pink terrazo flooring, ACNE has kept the look raw. All furniture within the store is also ACNE designed, keeping the space cohesive and uncluttered, allowing the inventory to really shine.

Any original concerns were quickly swept aside with the opening of the ACE Hotel across the street. Now the new kids on the block compliment each other quite nicely. ACNE has found a hip new neighbor with an equally hip new clientele eager to peruse their avant-garde new space.
